THE HISTORY OF VERAMENDI.

December 17,
1778

Juan Martin de Veramendi was born in what is now San Antonio.
He was one of 5 children born to Fernando Veramendi and Maria Josepha Granados.

1827

J.M. Veramendi’s petition for a Spanish Land Grant of 11 Leagues is granted.
The grant includes the land which is now the Veramendi master planned community.

1833

J.M. Veramendi passes away.
His widow, Maria Antonia Veramendi, subdivides and sells the land.

1870’s

Joseph Landa purchases land that includes the over 2,400 acre Veramendi ranch.
The Landa family uses the land to raise cattle.

1912

Landa’s wife passes away. Her will stipulates liquidation of the Landa estate.
Prior to this, the ranch was run by Landa's son, Harry, following the death of Joesph Landa in 1896.

1941

Dean Word, Sr. purchases the Landa Ranch.
Just over 24 hours later the United States entered World War II after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.

1956

Bill Borchers marries Joyce Word.
The ranch remains under the Word-Borchers’ ownership for the next 50 years.

The Words-Borchers family enters a Joint Venture with ASA Properties.
The story of Veramendi begins.
