This process has been in support of a student‑centered classroom with an emphasis on project‑based learning. In November 2015, voters approved a $62.8 million bond referendum to build two new elementary schools for growth and to address the facility, safety, and compliance needs of the district’s existing facilities. Both Voss Farms Elementary and Veramendi Elementary School opened in August 2017 for kindergarten through 5th‑grade students. That same school year, NBISD opened the Lone Star Early Childhood Center at the Lone Star Elementary site to service all of the district’s prekindergarten students. In November 2018, voters approved a $118.3 million bond referendum to build a new middle school and a new elementary.
NBISD strives to increase high levels of student performance by offering a rigorous curriculum and challenging academic programs. Annually, students and educators earn national and statewide awards for academic and teaching accomplishments.
NBISD students historically perform above regional and state averages in state accountability testing. Students also continue to outperform their state peers in the SAT and ACT tests and continue to perform at the college level on Advanced Placement exams.
