WHY A HOME IN NEW BRAUNFELS ISD?
Since its founding in 1845 the New Braunfels Independent School District (NBISD) has been focused on providing area students with a strong educational background. Today , New Braunfels ISD serves more than 9,000 students across 15 campuses, including three, Veramendi Elementary, Oak Run Middle School and New Braunfels High School, that serve the unique new master planned community, Veramendi. The school district’s excellent student/teacher ratio of 16.7/1 affords more one‑on‑one learning opportunities for students. NBISD strives to increase performance levels by offering student‑centered classrooms with an emphasis on project‑based learning, a rigorous curriculum and challenging academic programs for all students. And a fun fact, NBISD is the only district in America to have a unicorn as their mascot.
In 2012 the school district implemented the Transforming Every Classroom in the 21st Century (TEC21) one‑to‑one initiative, to provide constant access to personal devices for all students, regardless of income, to engage in the collaboration, creativity, communication and critical thinking necessary for a post‑K‑12 education and the workforce. Since 2016 all students in 1st grade through 12th have been given one‑to‑one access to a personal device.
Appointed in 2009 as New Braunfels ISD Superintendent, Randy Moczygemba, has been a visionary leader for the school district and with a recent contract renewal he will be serving the district through 2024. Working with the district’s stakeholders, Moczygemba has led NBISD to become one of the most efficient and highest‑performing districts in the state. Annually, both the students and educators earn national and statewide awards, and historically students perform above regional and state averages in state accountability testing.
For students attending NBISD, the academic school year typically begins the end of August and ends the last week of May. Access the New Braunfels ISD calendar 2018 – 2019 to learn more.
