NBISD – Meet the Principal of Oak Run Middle School
Veramendi is buzzing with excitement at the start of a new school year, and to help our residents get better acquainted with the leadership shaping the educational experience of their children, we sat down with the principal of Oak Run Middle School. With nearly three decades of dedication to education and a deep commitment to the New Braunfels Independent School District, Jessica White is entering her tenth year at Oak Run Middle School with the goal of creating a genuine sense of belonging for her students.
How long have you been in education and in your current role as principal of Oak Run Middle?
I am blessed to be starting my 28th year in education this month and just celebrated the start of my tenth year at Oak Run Middle this past April.
Tell us about your school. What makes it stand out?
Our school was built in phases as it transitioned from a sixth grade center in 1992 to a full middle school in 2009. You will be able to note the newer areas, which are still quite beautiful even at 15 years old, by the use of limestone inside and outside. It is a growing building inside and out.
What accomplishments are you most proud of during your time at Oak Run Middle?
Our students are highly competitive in all endeavors, and so are their teachers. We have been UIL academic champions for the last three years. Our athletic and fine arts programs are also high performers. Our Blaze dance team won sweepstakes last year, and we had a large group of cheerleaders invited to NCA competition in January.
How does your school engage the community?
We have a very active PTA that helps us bring in community volunteers, presenters, etc. We also ask that each of our student clubs and organizations contribute back to the community via service projects, such as providing and maintaining a garden at the Memory Care center, hosting a Trunk or Treat for all children in the area, collecting gifts & food for our families in need during holidays, etc.
What do you see as the key(s) to your school’s success?
Open communication and a desire to grow are key to helping our staff, students and families all feel a sense of belonging and purpose.
I would hope that they would all say that they can see evidence of just how much I truly care for our students and staff and how much I value the support our families provide to our programs.

Is there anything else you want Veramendi residents to know about your school?
“Blue and White, Unicorns Unite” is our motto‑we are here to help one another while being True Blue Unicorns!
Last question is a fun one: What three items would you bring with you on a deserted island?
A water filtration straw, lighter, and a Sand Cloud blanket/towel.
