About The Comal River

Originally called the Little Guadalupe by Spanish explorers, the Comal River begins in beautiful Landa Park located just 3.5 miles from Veramendi.  It is the shortest navigable river in the state of Texas and is a tributary of New Braunfels other much longer river, the Guadalupe.  With mild currents, clear waters and a constant temperature of 72 degrees Fahrenheit year‑round, it is little wonder that Schlitterbahn chose to build its 16‑acre water park chose along the banks of this beautiful Texas river.  Take a look at a Comal River map to see where the best spots are along this beautiful river.

About The Guadalupe River

The Guadalupe River is one of the earliest rivers explored by the Spanish and has been home to humans for thousands of years. Today the river is separated by several dams and has both an upper and lower section with the headwaters of the Upper Guadalupe beginning in Kerr County, near Kerrville. The Lower Guadalupe begins at the outlet of Canyon Lake and runs all the way to San Antonio Bay on the Gulf of Mexico. The section of the river between Canyon Dam and New Braunfels is a popular destination for a water recreation, including rafting, kayaking, tubing, and canoeing. The flow of the river in this area is set by Canyon Dam and conditions can change rapidly with severely heavy rain, which has been the cause of several instances of the Guadalupe River flooding throughout history.
